From his years in higher education to his two decades of service in the Air Force to his role today as a financial advisor, José Echeverri has always been driven by one thing: an innate desire to help others.

José is a financial professional who can offer insurance products and services. He utilizes a preservation-first approach to income and retirement planning to help clients gain confidence in their financial futures. José founded SWAN Financial Group (formerly Echeverri Financial Services) in 2001. In the years since, he has observed the benefits of deploying conservative, preservation-minded strategies capable of mitigating the risk inherent in market investments.

As interesting as his professional career has been, José's personal journey has been just as intriguing. He served 20 years in the Air Force as part of the 142nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, where he earned the rank of captain and was deployed as part of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He graduated with a degree in biology from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh and intended to be a doctor before shifting career gears and earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Delaware State University. Education has long been a core value for José, who taught “Wall Street 101” classes at Delaware Tech and later served as director of Delaware State University’s MBA program. A longtime Rotarian, José founded the La Casita Outreach Center in Georgetown, Delaware, and was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic Affairs. José has served as a director of multiple entities with the state of Delaware, including the 529 Plan (aka the College Investment Plan) and Plans Management Board (PMB) for retirement investment. He also spent 13 years as a trustee for Delaware State University.

José and his wife Janice, also an Air Force veteran, have been married for four-plus decades, and the couple has called Frederica, Delaware, home since 1987. They have two adult children — Eric and Cali — and recently welcomed their first grandchild, Clarissa Hope. Whether at work or away from the office, José stays active, with swimming, rowing and shooting sports among his favorite off-the-clock activities.
